Spherical tilesWritten by Paul BourkeOctober 2021
The following are a few examples of playing with spherical tilings. Nothing too sophisticated, creating a tiling of an equilateral triangle, apply that to each face of an icosahedron or octahedron (or tetrahedron), and then tessellating the edges and inflating to a sphere. Example 1
Octahedral symmetry.
Equirectangular projection from the center.
Example 2
Octahedral symmetry.
Equirectangular projection from the center.
Example 3
Icosahedral symmetry.
Equirectangular projection from the center.
Example 4
Icosahedral symmetry.
Equirectangular projection from the center.
Example 5
Icosahedral symmetry.
